Preston's Restaurant and Bar Renovation

Killington Bar Rendering

The design team (including an interior designer) selected finishes and colors that provide a warm and welcome feeling while maintaining the modern rustic lodge intention. Reclaimed wood was sourced from a barn in upstate New York and used as a wall covering and bar accent. The pattern and connections varied based on application.

Stone was used to create separation and texture between the restaurant and bar areas as well as in the back bar area.

The existing ceiling was removed and the structure was exposed in the bar area. A wooden cloud was added above the bar to give the area an accent as well as to define the space.

Preston's Restaurant and Bar Renovation was a 1.2 million dollar bar renovation to the existing Ovations restaurant at the Killington Grand Resort. This project's main goal was to update the bar and restaurant to a modern, open aesthetic while selecting materials and finishes that felt like a modern lodge. The space includes seating for 160, both for bar and a fine dining establishments at the mountain.

One of the key principles of the project was an inviting entry. The main staircase within the lobby is heavily trafficked by resort patrons and it was an effort of the design team to open the front door of Preston's to allow guests to be invited in to enjoy the wonderful food and atmosphere.

Another key aspect to the project was a corridor which connects the main lobby to the conference center. During the summer months the resort hosts many guests and conferences ranging from weddings to seminars. It was important for the architecture to allow the bar to maintain the integrity of the corridor as well as be expandable to allow the bar to spill out and fill the space. Removable wood screens where designed to allow the rigor of the corridor as well as to allow the expansion the bar when necessary. The design of the screens created a connection between the bar and the newly added windows and door to the courtyard.

Located just to the exterior of Preston's is a heated saltwater pool, hot tub, and spa which is constantly used during all seasons. It was important for the architecture to introduce a connection between the courtyard and the bar, which previously didn't exist.
